FHA Home Inspection | Before purchasing a new home, you will want to perform a residential inspection. These inspections are usually the last chance you will have to notice any major repairs that are needed. An exterior inspection can also be a great bargaining tool when it comes time to negotiate. While you may be tempted to perform the inspection yourself, a professional FHA home inspection company will be able to provide you with a more detail report.

During an exterior residential inspection, the first thing that you will want to look at is the roof. Start by checking for any irregularities in the shingling of the roof. If you notice any curling of the roof, chances are it is old and needs replaced. You will also want to look for any patches or cracks in the roof. This can indicate an active or old leak. While performing a roof inspection, take a look at the chimney. If you notice any missing bricks or mortar, this could be a sign that the chimney needs extensive repair.

Now that you have inspected the roof, move on to the siding. In this area, you will want to check for any swelling of the siding. Generally, swelling indicates that some of the siding has water damage and has begun to rot. Stains below the window siding can also indicate a larger problem.

Next, move to the windows and doors. Look for any damaged areas that may have been patched in the past. If the patch was not performed properly, the window could still be causing issues. If the window framing is made of aluminum, potential problems may be more difficult to spot. In these cases, squeeze the casing to make sure that no internal rotting has taken place.

As you can see, there are several things to look at when doing an exterior inspection. This article just provided a brief sampling of the thorough check-list your FHA Home Inspector should be doing. By putting in a little effort, you can save yourself money and headaches down the road in checking these items out prior to even putting an offer in on a home.
